The different kinds of containers
According to the ISO (International Organisation for Standardization) norm established in 1967, there are mainly 3 ranges of containers which length is respectively 20 foot (6,058 m), 30 foot et 40 foot (12,192 m). All the containers from this range have the same width, 8 foot (2,438 m) and 8,5 foot (2,591 m) high.
The inner capacity is comprise between 30 et 33m3.
We can more and more frequently see 9 foot (2,743 m) or 9,5 foot (2,896 m) high cube containers.
They all share the same strapping system, with corner pieces on the eight vertexes of the parallelepiped and twist-lock set on the frame of the vehicles.
3 kinds of containers :
- Common containers : dry, open top, open side, base, flat, open top half-height
- Isotherm containers : ventilated container (insulated), heated, refrigerated.
- Tank containers (for bulk liquids and dangerous goods).
